• Merging 0612–0614 entry-level
training and MOSs by creating a
merged 0612/0614 TSIMC and
working with HQMC C4 to get the
FY09 MOS to read that upon this
course, only the 0612 MOS will be
awarded with the title tactical switching operator. 7
• Merging 0651 and 0656 entry-level training and MOSs by creating a
DSTC that delivers a “data” Marine
who is capable of operating on either
networked or individual systems. The
new MOS, 0651 (data systems technician), will be reflected in the FY10
MOS manual. 8
• Revamping of the 0621course to
provide our field radio operators
training on a variety of new tactical
radios being used by the Operating
Forces (PRC–117, PRC–148, PRC–
150, VRC–110, and PRC–153). 9
• Beginning the development of a
systems chief course for 06XX staff
sergeants to bridge the gap between
entry- and senior-level MOSs by giving radio, wire, and data staff sergeants the systems integration
training they need in order to support
net-centric operations. 10 (See Figure
2.)
• Designing a communications planners course for staff sergeant through
captain to be taught at the CTCs.
This course would cover the plan-ning/integration of a variety of systems (SWAN, TSM greatly modulated frequency, LMST, etc.) and will
fill “the expertise gap” that was created by the rapid fielding of these end
items. 11

Notes
1. In the 03XX OccFld this would be the rough
equivalent of having one MOS to emplace a
mortar base plate, another MOS the tube, a
third MOS to attach the sight, and a fourth
MOS to drop and fire the round.

The Way Ahead
MCCES is prepared to restructure
its training syllabus to produce net-centric Marines in support of the Operating Forces. During the October
2008 HQMC C4 OAG, C4 made the
decision to begin the process to replace
the present World War II-vintage
stovepiped 06XX MOS structure/
training continuum and replace it with
a net-centric focus. MCCES now has
the tools, skills, knowledge, and
HQMC C4 guidance to make it hap-
2. This model is currently being used in the
03XX OccFld wherein a Marine first goes to
Marine combat training (MCT) after he completes recruit training, and upon successful
completion of MCT he then goes to advanced
training for his 03XX MOS.
